N-acetyl-cysteine, (NAC) Immune Essentials for Viral Infection

N-acetyl-cysteine

N-acetyl-cysteine, (NAC): The most potent, specific factor for respiratory viral infections is N-acetyl-cysteine. This natural medicine is a nutrient that builds up the levels of glutathione in the cells and glutathione is present in high numbers in healthy people with strong immune function. Glutathione is a sulfur-based anti-inflammatory, anti-aging, and anti-tumour antioxidant. It is a powerhouse for healing and coordination of our innate immune system. A clinical study of NAC at 600 mg twice/ day during flu season was found to reduce symptomatic infection from 79% all the way to 25%. While the rate of infection was unaffected, the likelihood of symptoms was reduced by 70% along with shorter duration of symptoms and less intensity of symptoms when any were present. There is a good reason why N-acetyl-cysteine is the first in our series of essential immune supports. Stay tuned for more insight into our essential immune series as we provide as much education and support as possible for our beautiful community. It is always wise to connect with a certified naturopathic and/ or homeopathic doctor to discuss types of natural medicines, frequency, and dose because we are each unique in the ways that we manifest disease and the ways in which we restore balance to health.
